Managing Road Verges for Biodiversity
We will work with local councils to manage verges for the benefit of wildlife as well as people.
- Grasslands – whether its meadows, road verges, or green spaces – have the power to benefit biodiversity, climate and people, by becoming wildflower-rich habitats.
- Britain’s road verges and public urban green spaces cover an area the size of Wiltshire. If managed with sympathy for grassland wildlife, they can be the vital habitat network that nature’s recovery needs.
- Practical advice on managing verges is available online from Plantlife
- A case study from Dorset Council shows how this approach can actually save council money, a useful argument when speaking to district, county and unitary authorities
