Active Travel
We will support active travel options such as walking and cycling to help people get out of their cars and reduce emissions.
- Greenhouse gas emissions from road transport currently make up around a fifth of the UK’s total emissions, and transport is the largest-emitting single economic sector.
- While the creation of cycle lanes tends to be the prerogative of highways authorities, local councils can also get involved in supporting volunteer efforts to clear and publicise local rights of way, such as at Bidford-on-Avon in Warwickshire
- Active Travel England is the government’s executive agency responsible for making walking, wheeling and cycling the preferred choice for everyone to get around in England
